We also have a page with details on a lots of York Hotels, for those who want to find out about what's on offer before checking prices. If you want to find out about York hotels before you search for the best price, click on this link York Hotels link.

If you are ready to book your hotel and you want to check prices to get the best deal, this section is for you. The following websites will give you the widest choice of york hotels at the lowest prices. You can book literally any York hotel from these five websites. Below we link you directly to their York Hotel pages, plus we tell you how to get the best from them.

Superbreak York Hotels - this link is to superbreak's York hotel page. It gives you a list of up to 40 hotels in and around York. Unfortunately Superbreak can't filter out the 'New York' hotels from the 'York hotels', so they will be in the list too. Odd, but that's what they told us.

Superbreak are based in York, so you'd expect them to have the good coverage and prices, and they do. Some things to watch out for though:

Room rates, facilities, grades, detailed descriptions and even photos are available for most hotels, but note that Superbreak is the only website in this list that quote prices on a per person basis not per room. Obviously, for a double room you need to double the rate they show.

You can narrow your York hotel search by clicking on any of the 4 options:
• clicking on 'stars' - lists the York hotels from the highest hotel star (grade) rating to the lowest. To start at the 2 star (budget) hotels, page down to the bottom of the first page and click on the last page.
• clicking on 'hotel name' - changes the list to an alphabetical listing
• clicking on price 'lowest first' or 'highest first' changes the order based on the rate per person (not per room)

Active hotels York hotel page - with a very fast search, this is an excellent website for budget hotels and to get a baseline on the rate you should expect to pay. They offer a great choice of York hotels - up to 35 hotels in and around York, from B&Bs to 5 star luxury with rates from £30 a room or less to £150 or more. This website covers the big chains, independent hotels, B&Bs and guest houses.

Click on the link and you will be presented with the first 10 of the hotels active have on offer.

You can sort the hotels by distance from the town centre, price or (star) rating or click on any of the hotels for a description and picture, plus detailed hotel and room information. When you book you get instant online confirmation with Active too.

Allrez.com York hotel page - this link takes you to the Allrez York hotel page. Allrez have a great selection of 2, 3 and 4 star hotels and great prices.

When you click on the link you will be presented with a page to enter your dates, with 'refine search' section at the bottom of the page.

Unfortunately, the refine search doesn't work very well. The quickest way to get an idea of the prices is to enter your dates in the drop down boxes at the top and hit 'search'. Or, if you know the hotels you want prices for, use the 'search by hotel name' to check the price at Allrez.

Hotels.com / travelnow.com edinburgh hotels - this is one of the worlds biggest hotels websites, so they should have some good deals (but they don't always).

The link is direct to their 'York hotel' search start page. Once you have entered your dates, you will be presented with a list of their best York hotel deals, followed by all of the hotels they offer.

You can sort the hotels by 'best value' (special offers at the top), 'quality' (or star rating), 'price' or as an 'A-Z' list.

Hotels.com use their bulk buying muscle to offer 'special internet rates', offering guaranteed rooms and a number of hotels with 'best buy' prices that usually can't be beaten.

Hotel Connect York hotels - a good website with a choice of almost thirty 2, 3 and 4 star York hotels, with great prices on the few they do offer.

Hotel Connect only have rates for the next 6 months; click for a description and picture of the hotel and other essential information.

Tips on getting the best price for York Hotel rooms:

  1. As with most things on the web, our first piece of advice is to shop around for your hotel. Check the prices at all of the websites listed above. It's not unusual for all of them to offer the same hotel on the same day, but at very different prices.
  2. Unlike flights, as long as there is no conference or major event in York (such as the summer horse racing meetings - you can check for events at whatsonwhen), you will usually get the best deal by leaving booking late. Booking between 2 and 7 days in advance usually yields the cheapest rates on rooms. But don't wait until the day you need the room, as prices go back up.
  3. When comparing prices, the most important thing is to make sure that you are comparing ‘like with like’. Not just the same hotel, make sure the ‘package’ is the same. Price per person or per room, service charges added on late in the booking process and breakfast (included or not) are the usual variants.
  4. Sometimes adding a weekend night will lower the rate for all of the other nights of your stay (you are classed as a 'leisure' traveller).
  5. Compare prices, but compare locations too. It's usually worth paying a little extra to be nearer the centre of town, or the race course (if you're going to the races), or your preferred attraction.
  6. Don't just rely on 'star' ratings. Look at the facilities the hotel has and rank hotels based on the facilities importance to you.
  7. If you want a cheap hotel at the weekend, consider hotels near the race course (assuming there's no meeting) / 4 star hotels. The race goers and (in the case of the 4 star hotels) business people who use these hotels only want rooms during the week. These hotels are usually of a 'superior' standard but, in order to attract weekend custom, they offer excellent weekend deals and can be the same price as a 3 star hotel.
