Where: Various venues around York
What: York Early Music Festival is a celebration of the female muse - as patron, composer and performer.
Celebrating the artistic achievements of some of Europe’s finest courts and convents, the Festival focuses on famous icons from the Virgin Mary to Queen Christina of Sweden, and takes in the medieval machinations of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, the glamour and intrigue of the renaissance court of Elizabeth I of England and the baroque opulence of Venice.
The Festival also celebrates the City of York - with its myriad historic houses, medieval churches and ancient guildhalls. So you can explore medieval architecture as you enjoy the music.
